To our knowledge, no reviews have been published on this topic in PubMed MEDLINE. Future reviews should focus on the changes in and outcomes of telehealth use in rural communities across the United States due to the COVID-19 pandemic. For this narrative review, we searched PubMed MEDLINE from January 2017 to December 2020. Key search terms included (“telehealth” AND “telemedicine”), “rural” AND “outcomes.” Filters were applied to identify free full-text studies published in English over a 4-year period to include the most recent evidence available in this research area.
